I Do Not Wish for Slumber

Late night, as the moon looks down

the armor is strewn all over the ground.

We listen to nature’s song.

Open and exposed:

No way to conceal,

what’s true or real.

Behind the mask

or with

slight-of-hand,

deception has no place here,

despite the darkness.

Forbidden by the powers that be,

I imagine what it would be like

to embrace, run my fingers through your hair, or

touch a cheek.

These stolen moments

hold glimpses of what

could be

Despite the darkness

I do not wish

for slumber.
